Japan Government Awards 100 MW Solar Project in Sidi Bouzid with ¥2 Billion Subsidy
The Japanese government has selected a 100 MW solar project in Sidi Bouzid to receive a subsidy of up to ¥2 billion, equivalent to 42 million Tunisian dinars, the Japanese Embassy in Tunisia announced on Friday.
Joint Venture to Implement the Project
The project will be implemented by a Japan-Norway joint venture, according to agreements concluded on March 24, 2025, with the Tunisian government and the Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company.
Carbon Credit Exchange Mechanism
This subsidy will be provided under the Carbon Credit Exchange Mechanism (MCC), whose protocol was signed by the governments of Japan and Tunisia during the TICAD8 conference in August 2022. This will be the third project of its kind, following two solar projects already under construction in Sidi Bouzid and Tozeur.
