Tourism Minister Visits Sidi Bou Saïd to Oversee Preparations for Port Renovation
The Minister of Tourism visited the site on Tuesday to ensure everything is ready before the launch of the works. Sidi Bou Saïd is set to undergo a transformation on its seaside. Soufiane Tekaya, Minister of Tourism, conducted a site visit to the village's marina on March 10, 2026. The objective was to verify the state of preparations before the official start of the port infrastructure renovation works.
A Long-Awaited Project
The program is concrete and includes the refurbishment of the quays and the rehabilitation of the protective seawall using rockfill. These two elements are essential to guarantee the safety and functionality of the port.
A Working Visit
The visit was not symbolic, as it brought together the Minister, the Secretary-General of the Sidi Bou Saïd municipality, representatives from the Ministry of Equipment and Housing, security and customs officials from the port, officials from the Ministry of Tourism, the Director-General of the Tourist Leisure Company, and the representatives of the company in charge of the works.
A Working Session to Accelerate the Pace
After the visit, a technical meeting was held with all stakeholders. Three points were on the agenda: the organizational, technical, and logistical aspects of the project. The goal was clear: to establish procedures to accelerate the progress of the works and ensure their start within the scheduled deadlines.
A Project with Economic and Tourist Implications
Amir Kasmentini, Director of Maritime Ports at the Ministry of Equipment and Housing, presented a detailed plan of the works and their various phases. He specified that his ministry will ensure regular monitoring of the project, in coordination with the Ministry of Tourism and other stakeholders.
A Strategic Project
Soufiane Tekaya emphasized the need to lift all administrative and technical obstacles to respect the deadlines. He also called for coordinated management between the different structures involved. The Minister recalled the strategic dimension of the project: developing marina infrastructure, stimulating nautical tourism, and strengthening Sidi Bou Saïd's attractiveness as a reference destination.
