Tunisia Inaugurates Two Combined Energy Production Installations
On Friday, May 3, the Minister of Industry, Mines, and Energy, Fatma Thabet Chiboub, inaugurated two combined energy production and tri-generation installations within the "La Rose Blanche" industrial complex in Sfax. These installations, located in the Tunisian food production company "STPA" and the "CDS" couscous factory, have a capacity of 6.6 megawatts and represent an investment of 17.5 million dinars. The goal is to reduce energy costs and minimize carbon footprint.
The Minister praised the fruitful collaboration between the public and private sectors, essential for the realization of this project, and specified that "the investment costs for these projects will be amortized over three years, accompanied by a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions."
According to the Ministry's statement, these energy transition and energy efficiency initiatives, as well as combined energy production, will advantageously position Tunisian companies on the international market, anticipating the challenges related to reducing carbon emissions and greenhouse gases, as well as carbon footprint in exports by 2027.
It is worth recalling that the "La Rose Blanche" complex has been committed to the energy transition program since 2022, investing in six combined production stations and tri-generation with a total capacity of 16 megawatts, and 12 photovoltaic solar energy projects with a total capacity of 4.6 megawatts, planned until 2025.
Let's recall that since 2002, Tunisia has implemented combined energy production projects in the industrial and service sectors, reaching an installed capacity of 163 megawatts distributed across 52 establishments, at a total cost of 320 million dinars. These projects have generated an annual energy savings of nearly 140,000 tons of oil equivalent, worth 180 million dinars, and a total energy savings of 940,000 tons of oil equivalent between 2002 and 2023.
