Tunisia Secures $300 Million Loan from World Bank to Boost Food Security

The Tunisian People's Representatives Assembly (ARP) has approved a $300 million loan between Tunisia and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) to finance the Urgent Response to Food Security Project (Prusa). This financing is intended for the Grain Office to implement projects over the 2024-2026 period. The loan, which will be repaid over 28 years with an interest rate of 6.87%, includes an eight-year grace period.

The project aims to provide urgent assistance to farmers worth $145 million to mitigate the effects of drought on small-scale producers and $155 million to support wheat supply.

This credit follows a first financing of $130 million granted by the World Bank in 2022 for the same Urgent Response to Food Security Project in Tunisia, as well as a USAID grant obtained in 2023.
