Tunisia Boasts High STEM Graduation Rates, According to AU and OECD Report
According to a recent report by the African Union Commission (AUC) and the OECD Development Centre, Tunisia has a STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) graduation rate of over 20%, accompanied by high dropout rates in higher education.
The economic report, "African Development Dynamics 2024 (AfDD 2024)", indicates that Tunisia, Algeria, Mauritius, and Morocco are the African countries with the highest number of STEM graduates, which is an important indicator in the context of skills development policies. As a result, these countries enjoy a high-quality workforce.
According to the same report, in 2024, Africa is expected to achieve an average GDP growth rate of 3.5% and count five of the world's top 10 fastest-growing economies. Africa's growth rate will surpass the global growth rate, estimated at 3.1%, and is expected to reach 4.0% in 2025, compared to 3.2% globally. These growth prospects can be further stimulated by leveraging the demographic dividend linked to the growth of the working-age population, which is expected to double by 2050 and account for 86% of the total global population growth. With a growing, better-educated population, African countries are building an unprecedented talent pool.
Notably, the African Union has committed to improving the educational and professional prospects of young African workers. Skills development is at the heart of its Agenda 2063, and education is the theme of the African Union for 2024.
