Tunisian Healthcare Accelerates Digital Transformation

Tunisian healthcare is undergoing a rapid digital transformation, driven by ongoing public projects and the discreet but real growth of local healthtech startups. Telemedicine, digital patient file management, and medical monitoring solutions are all contributing to the development of a structured ecosystem, parallel to state reforms.

Key Projects

This dynamic is reflected in the projects for a national health identifier and the citizen platform "Sahetna", which aim to simplify the care pathway and centralize patients' medical data.

Progress Update

A progress update was presented during a meeting of the steering committee for the digital transformation of the health sector, held on Wednesday, June 10, 2026. The meeting focused on the advancement of various projects and their gradual deployment.

National Health Identifier

According to the information presented, the pilot phase of the national health identifier has been deemed conclusive in two reference establishments: the Salah Azaïz Institute and La Rabta Hospital. The experiment has enabled the training of concerned teams and the improvement of data quality, with the ultimate goal of eliminating duplicates and establishing a single medical file per patient.

Digital Birth Declaration System

In addition, an initial experiment with the digital birth declaration system has been launched in several health facilities. In the long term, the system is expected to enable the automatic attribution of a health identifier at birth, including in special cases.

Sahetna Platform

Another project in an advanced stage is the "Sahetna" platform, which is currently in the final phase of technical validation and security checks. The platform is intended to become a single point of entry for citizens, allowing them to track their consultations, appointments, and their children's medical files.
