ELLEvate 2024 Summit: Experts Discuss the Profound Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Various Sectors

The ELLEvate 2024 summit, opened by Yousra Magouri Hmidhi, President of Open Minds Project, brought together experts Wassim Jouini, Technical Director and AI Responsible at LegalPlace, Mariem Loukil, Data Scientist Instructor responsible for AI, and Cyrine Ben Farhat, Digital Transformation Manager at BNP Paribas, to discuss the profound impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on various sectors, highlighting how this technology is transforming our daily lives and work.

The Importance of Communities and Partnerships

At the beginning of the event, Yousra Magouri Hmidhi emphasized the importance of communities in amplifying female initiatives and reinforcing women's leadership. She announced several partnerships, including with educational institutions and diaspora organizations, and stressed the need for collaboration and mutual support to maximize the impact of these initiatives.

The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Daily Life

A discussion on the impact of AI on daily life took place, with the following key points addressed:

General Adoption of AI

The panelists began by highlighting that AI is now ubiquitous, with approximately 180 million ChatGPT users in just one year. This rapid adoption demonstrates how deeply AI is integrating into our daily lives, changing our work modes and functioning. They identified three main trends in AI adoption:

  1. Development and Adoption of Multi-Modal Models: These models can understand and process varied data, including text, images, video, and audio, offering human-like comprehension and interpretation capabilities.
  2. Miniaturization and Specialization of Models: Developing smaller, specialized models that can function on devices without requiring communication with remote servers.
  3. Automation of Enterprise Processes: AI enables the automation of complex tasks, such as extracting information from structured and unstructured documents.

Companies are adopting AI primarily to automate processes, improve productivity, and offer a better customer experience. Wassim Jouini shared a concrete example of a bank using AI to automatically process emails related to fund transfers, reducing human workload and increasing efficiency.

However, regarding regulation, the European Union has recently ratified a strict regulation on AI, similar to the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation), which will require companies to comply with new security and transparency standards. This regulation aims to protect citizens while promoting responsible AI adoption.

Opportunities and Challenges in Tunisia

Mariem Loukil highlighted that Tunisia, in its digitalization phase, has a unique opportunity to leverage AI advancements to improve administrative processes and offer better services to citizens, which can increase trust in this technology and stimulate local innovation.

Cyrine Ben Farhat discussed the essential skills women need to acquire to remain competitive in the AI era, emphasizing the importance of technical and non-technical skills.

Conclusion and Perspectives

The conference concluded that AI is reshaping all aspects of daily life and work. For Tunisia, this means not only an opportunity to improve public and private services but also to position itself as a regional leader in AI technologies. Successful AI integration requires close collaboration between the government, private sector, and educational institutions, while taking into account emerging regulations to ensure ethical and secure AI use.
