Central Bank of Tunisia Ensures Continuity of Withdrawals and Electronic Payments during Holidays

The Central Bank of Tunisia has issued an official note to banks and the postal service to guarantee the continuity of withdrawals and electronic payments during the Independence Day and Eid al-Fitr holidays.

Upcoming Holidays and Concerns

As the holidays approach, concerns arise about encountering empty or out-of-service ATMs. To avoid such situations, the Governor of the Central Bank of Tunisia signed Circular Note No. 80 on March 17, 2026, addressed to the general managers of all banks and the President-Director General of the National Post Office.

Requirements of the Central Bank of Tunisia

The note is clear and sets two specific obligations:

  • To continuously supply ATMs with cash and maintain the operation of electronic payment platforms.
  • To intervene promptly in case of a malfunction or service interruption, regardless of the nature of the problem.

Annual Publication of the Note

The Central Bank of Tunisia regularly reissues this type of instruction before major holidays. Cash withdrawals increase significantly as holidays approach, and online payments also intensify. Without prior coordination, service disruptions multiply. By formalizing its expectations through an official note, the central bank gives itself a means of holding financial institutions accountable.

Objective of the Note

The objective of the note is to ensure that banks and the postal service take the necessary measures to maintain the continuity of their services during the holidays, thereby preventing disruptions and ensuring that citizens can access their funds and make payments without difficulty.
