National Council of Regions and Districts Summons Tunisair and Ministry of Transport Officials

On Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at Bardo, the commission of services and social development held a hearing session with representatives from the Ministry of Transport and Tunisair. The agenda focused on discussing the company's restructuring efforts and preparations for the upcoming season of Tunisians returning from abroad.

Measures Announced by Tunisair

Tunisair presented several measures to facilitate the return of Tunisians residing abroad (TRE) this summer:

  • Due to high demand, the company plans to operate additional flights to the French market.
  • Tariff reductions were offered between January 26 and February 22, 2026. Given the success of the operation, the offer has been extended until March 15, 2026.
  • A new promotional offer is scheduled for June 17 to September 6, 2026 (instead of the usual August 20). Families will benefit from exceptional discounts in addition to the usual period tariffs. Students will have access to specific preferential prices. Travelers will also be able to cancel their reservations before departure.

Criticisms Expressed by Deputies

Members of the commission expressed their dissatisfaction, highlighting several key points:

  • Repeated delays, often without prior warning, frustrate passengers.
  • Ticket and baggage prices are deemed too high, leading many Tunisians to prefer competing companies.
  • Some TRE are giving up on returning to the country due to accumulated negative experiences.
  • Deputies also demanded greater vigilance in protecting baggage and improving overall service quality.

Tunisair's Response

Tunisair representatives acknowledged the difficulties and assured that the company is working to improve services. They stated that procedures are in place to secure baggage. Regarding the fleet, the numbers speak for themselves: Tunisair has 19 aircraft, but only 12 are in service. The remaining 7 are grounded for maintenance or repairs, either in Tunisia or abroad. The company specified that 2025 was marked by very costly maintenance operations.
