Inflation Rate Drops to 6% in January 2025
Underlying Inflation Rate Excluding Food and Energy Decreases
In January 2025, the underlying inflation rate, excluding food and energy, dropped to 6%, down from 6.3% in December 2024. Prices of non-regulated products (free prices) showed an annual increase of 6.6%, while regulated products saw a 3.8% rise. Non-regulated food products experienced an 8% increase, compared to 1.3% for regulated price products.
Monthly Consumer Price Index Rises by 0.4%
On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased by 0.4%, driven mainly by the rise in food prices (+0.6%) and health services (+0.9%). In contrast, prices in the "clothing and footwear" category decreased by 0.5%, largely due to the start of winter sales in mid-January.
Food Prices Surge
Food prices rose by 0.6% month-over-month, primarily driven by increases in:
- Fresh vegetable prices (+3.6%)
- Lamb meat prices (+1.7%)
- Beef prices (+1.3%)
- Fresh fruit prices (+1%)
- Egg prices (+0.9%)
On the other hand, edible oil prices dropped by 4.7%.
Clothing Prices Fall
With the launch of winter sales, clothing prices decreased by 0.5% in January, following a 1.7% increase in December 2024.
Health Services See Price Hike
Health service prices rose by 0.9% month-over-month, mainly due to an increase in outpatient service tariffs (+1.9%).
