Cabinet Meeting Approves Two Key Reforms to Boost Local Governance and Economic Competitiveness

The Council of Ministers, led by Head of Government Kamel Madouri, approved two significant reforms on October 10, 2024. The first is a bill on the reorganization of local and regional councils, while the second is a loan agreement with the African Development Bank (AfDB) to support business competitiveness and job creation. These decisions aim to improve local governance and promote balanced development in Tunisia.

The bill seeks to strengthen the role of local authorities. It clearly defines the competencies of local, regional, and national councils, as well as the Council of Regions and Districts. The objective is to better coordinate development efforts and manage local resources more effectively, responding to the specific needs of each region.

The loan agreement signed with the AfDB, approved during the meeting, finances a program to improve employability, support entrepreneurship, and enhance institutional capacities. This program aims to promote socio-economic inclusion and help small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) develop while encouraging job creation.
