Tunisia's Trade Deficit with Zlecaf Decreases by 35.2% in H1 2025

According to data published on Wednesday, July 23, by the Ministry of Commerce and Export Development, Tunisia's trade deficit with the Zlecaf (Economic Community of West African States) decreased by 35.2% in the first half of 2025, standing at 599.1 million dinars, compared to 925 million dinars during the same period in 2024.

This positive trend is mainly explained by a significant increase in Tunisian exports to Zlecaf member countries, which rose by 20.5% during the first six months of the year, while imports from this region decreased by 6.9%. On a bilateral level, certain African countries are showing a particularly favorable dynamic: the trade surplus with Nigeria jumped by 481.4%, reaching 83.5 million dinars, while the surplus with Angola progressed by 148.9% to 13.2 million dinars, and with Morocco, it increased by 86.4% to 2,593 million dinars. Moreover, the deficit with Egypt and Algeria was reduced by 8% and 3.5%, respectively.

Regarding the Comesa (Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa) region, Tunisia's trade balance also shows a significant improvement. The surplus increased by 16.5%, reaching 556.4 million dinars by the end of June 2025. Exports to this region rose by 13.7%, totaling 1,370 million dinars, while imports increased by 11.9%, reaching 813.7 million dinars.
