Head of Government Chairs Restricted Ministerial Council to Discuss 2025 Cereal Harvest Preparations

On Monday, March 10, 2025, the Head of Government, Kamel Maddouri, chaired a restricted ministerial council at the Government Palace in La Kasbah to examine preparations for the 2025 cereal harvest.

During the meeting, the Head of Government emphasized the importance of optimal logistical, organizational, and institutional preparation. He stressed the need to mobilize all resources to ensure the collection, storage, and conservation of harvests. This includes improving storage infrastructure and digitizing the collection process to minimize losses and optimize operational efficiency.

In parallel, the government plans to restructure the National Cereal Office to improve governance and ensure more effective sector management. The goal is to reduce dependence on imports and strengthen food self-sufficiency.

Concrete Measures for the 2025 Harvest

The Minister of Agriculture, Water Resources, and Fisheries presented a set of anticipated measures, including:

  • Establishing the definitive list of collectors and storage centers
  • Providing financial advances to agricultural cooperatives
  • Creating surveillance and monitoring committees for collection operations
  • Integrating new storage capacities in the governorates of Béja, Siliana, Jendouba, Bizerte, Kairouan, and Zaghouan

In terms of financing, the council approved several decisions, including an exceptional authorization for the Cereal Office to finance wheat purchases from February 20, 2025. Additionally, the government will accelerate the publication of the decree fixing prices and payment modalities for cereals for the 2025-2026 season before the start of the harvest.

Finally, efforts will be made to strengthen cereal transportation by optimizing the role of the Tunisian National Railway Company and adapting regulations on load weights to maximize the use of available transportation means.

These measures aim to ensure better organization of the sector and a successful harvest for 2025.
