National Institute for Rural Engineering, Water, and Forests (INRGREF) Appoints New Director

The National Institute for Rural Engineering, Water, and Forests (INRGREF) has undergone a change in leadership. Professor Sihem Jebari, a higher education instructor in agriculture, has been appointed as the new Director General of the institution, pursuant to Decree No. 2026-157 of July 23, 2026, published in the Official Journal of the Republic of Tunisia (JORT) on July 24.

Key Role in Applied Research

This appointment comes at a time when the institute plays a crucial role in applied research related to agriculture, water management, and preservation of natural resources. These three areas have become strategic for Tunisia in the face of water stress, climate change, and food security challenges.

Institute's Mission

Established in 1996, the INRGREF is responsible for contributing to the development of the national research policy in the fields of rural engineering, water resources, and forests. The institute implements scientific programs, develops technical solutions for sustainable management of natural resources, and participates in the protection of rural areas.

New Leadership and Future Directions

With Professor Sihem Jebari at the helm, the INRGREF is poised to continue its vital work in addressing the country's most pressing environmental and agricultural challenges. The institute's research and initiatives will remain crucial in shaping Tunisia's response to the increasingly complex issues of water scarcity, climate change, and food security.
