Special Measures for Ramadan
During the month of Ramadan, the Ministry of Trade will implement a special system to allow families in need to access subsidized vegetable oil, using the database created during the Covid-19 pandemic. This measure will be applied in coordination with the Ministry of Social Affairs, according to the TAP agency.
Strategic Stockpiling of Essential Products
The Ministry has also built up strategic stocks of essential products to ensure their availability. This includes eggs, milk, and certain products that were sometimes lacking in the past, such as tea, rice, sugar, and coffee. This improvement is the result of better management of supply chains by the Tunisian Trade Office (OCT), which today ensures a more reliable supply.
Price Control Measures
For red meat, the Ministry is strengthening controls in butcher shops to limit price increases. The company "Ellouhoum" has set up sales points for butchers in several regions, including El Ouardia and various areas of Greater Tunis, to regulate the market.
Export Promotion
On the export side, Samir Abid announced a program to promote Tunisian brands. The Export Promotion Center (Cepex) plans to organize around sixty events abroad to showcase the country's flagship products, particularly olive oil and dates. The Ministry is also supporting exporting SMEs to diversify their markets towards Asia, North and South America, as well as Russia and China.
Competition Law Reform
Finally, the Minister specified that the Competition Council is examining nearly 600 cases, and that the draft reform of the competition law will soon be submitted to the government before being examined by the Assembly of People's Representatives.
