Tunisia Launches Sixth Round of Solar Photovoltaic Projects

The Ministry of Industry, Mines, and Energy has made a significant move towards Tunisia's energy transition. A sixth round of solar photovoltaic project calls has been launched, with 200 megawatts (MW) to be allocated entirely to the Tunisian Company of Electricity and Gas (STEG). This is an opportunity for investors ready to produce electricity that STEG will purchase in its entirety.

Objective and Benefits

This initiative is part of Tunisia's ambitious plan to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels. The winning projects will directly feed into the national grid through the authorization regime provided by Decree No. 1123 of 2016. The goal is to:

  • Lower the country's energy bill
  • Secure energy supply
  • Boost the local economy

Eligibility and Application Process

The call is open to all project promoters (companies, investors), with priority given to the order of arrival of applications, within the limit of the network capacity (high-voltage lines and transformers). The total capacity is 200 MW.

  • Tariffs: Fixed by ministerial decision of October 9, 2024, with a fixed solar purchase price and a standardized STEG contract model.
  • Application Period: From April 15 to June 15, 2026, before 12:00 PM.
  • Submission Requirements: 2 paper versions + 2 digital versions, to be submitted to the Ministry (40 Sidi El Heni Street, Montplaisir, Tunis).

This initiative offers a unique opportunity for investors to contribute to Tunisia's energy transition while benefiting from a stable and secure investment environment.
