EU Remains Tunisia's Main Trading Partner

The European Union remains Tunisia's primary trading partner in terms of imports, accounting for 43.3% of the total over the first ten months of 2025, according to the latest data published by the National Institute of Statistics (INS). The value of Tunisian imports from the EU reached 30,586.6 million dinars, compared to 29,209.5 million dinars during the same period in 2024.

Key Trends and Partners

This increase is mainly driven by trade with France and Germany, with Tunisian imports from these countries rising by 11.8% and 8.1%, respectively. In contrast, imports from Italy have slightly decreased by 1.2%, while those from Greece and Belgium have fallen by 29.8% and 8%, respectively.

Asian Partners

Outside the European zone, China is consolidating its position as Tunisia's main Asian partner, accounting for 13% of total imports. Tunisian purchases from the Asian giant have recorded a significant increase of 25.1%. Turkey is also showing notable growth, with a 13.6% increase, confirming its growing role in Tunisian trade.

Decline in Trade with Other Countries

On the other hand, Tunisian imports from Russia and India have declined, with decreases of 19.4% and 4.9%, respectively. Russia, which accounts for around 5% of total imports, remains a key supplier, particularly in the energy sector.

Global Trends and Diversification

Overall, these figures reflect a gradual diversification of Tunisia's trading partners, even if the European Union remains by far its main supplier. The current trend testifies to a partial reorientation towards Asian markets, dominated by China and Turkey, in a global context marked by the reconfiguration of supply chains.
