President Kais Saied Chairs Ministerial Council to Discuss Labor Code Reform and Subcontracting Abolition

On Thursday, January 16, President Kais Saied presided over a ministerial council to discuss, among other things, the reform of the labor code and the abolition of subcontracting. It is worth recalling that a bill to reform the code, which has been in force since 1966, has been in preparation since 2024.

This reform aims to modernize Tunisian legislation to better address the challenges of the current labor market and technological advancements, including artificial intelligence and new forms of communication. The reform will also have a more pronounced social aspect. It is worth noting that the 2025 Finance Law had a clear social approach in several articles, including one for the creation of an Unemployment Insurance Fund, another for reducing taxes on low-income earners, and another for the creation of a fund for the transportation of agricultural workers.

In this labor code reform, as mentioned earlier, the President of the Republic affirms his desire to abolish subcontracting to put an end to a modern form of slavery and undignified working conditions.
