Tunisian Dates Continue to Gain Ground on International Markets
Between October 2025 and June 2026, Tunisia exported 135,500 tons of dates, representing an 11.5% increase compared to the same period in the previous campaign, when 121,500 tons were exported. Morocco remains the leading buyer of Tunisian dates, accounting for 17.6% of exported volumes.
Export Revenue and Market Share
According to the latest data published by the National Observatory of Agriculture (Onagri), revenue generated by these exports reached 854.4 million dinars, up 10.7% from 771.7 million dinars in the previous year. The main European markets are:
- Italy, with 11.6% of exported quantities
- Germany, with 9.8% of exported quantities At the regional level, the European Union is the primary market for Tunisian dates, accounting for 45.9% of volumes, followed by Africa (22.5%) and Asia (20%).
Dominant Variety and Price
The iconic Tunisian variety, Deglet Ennour, continues to dominate international sales, representing 83.9% of the total exported volume. The average price of exported dates during the ninth month of the 2025/2026 campaign was 6.31 dinars per kilogram. For Deglet Ennour, the price reached 7.06 dinars per kilogram. However, Onagri notes a slight decrease of 0.7% in the average price compared to the same period in the previous campaign.
Organic Segment Growth
The organic segment is growing, but remains limited. Organic dates recorded a stronger dynamic than the global market, with exports reaching 7,748.2 tons over the first nine months of the campaign, valued at 78.6 million dinars. The organic segment shows a growth of 15.9% in volume and 32.1% in value compared to the previous campaign. Despite this progress, it still represents a small share of total exports, with only 5.7% of exported volumes. The main destinations for organic Tunisian dates are:
- Germany, with 33% of volumes
- The Netherlands, with 12% of volumes
- Belgium, with 11% of volumes The average price of exported organic dates is 10.14 dinars per kilogram, significantly higher than the overall market average. Derived products from organic dates even reach an average price of 11.02 dinars per kilogram, compared to 7.94 dinars per kilogram for standard organic dates.
