Tunisia's Import Trends in 2025

In the first nine months of 2025, Tunisia recorded imports totaling 63,148.1 million dinars (MD), marking a 5.4% increase compared to the same period in 2024, where imports stood at 59,902 MD. This rise occurs in a context of an expanded trade deficit, reaching 16,728.3 MD, compared to 13,497.4 MD the previous year.

Drivers of Growth

The main drivers of this growth are equipment goods, raw materials and semi-finished products, as well as consumer goods. Imports of equipment goods increased by 22.2%, those of raw materials and semi-finished products by 8.4%, and consumer goods progressed by 14.7%. These trends suggest a willingness to strengthen the country's productive apparatus and meet domestic demand.

Evolution of Imports by Category

On the other hand, certain sectors have experienced a contraction. Imports of energy products decreased by 16.9%, while those of food products fell by 1.9%. This decline in food imports can be attributed to an improvement in local production or a reduction in internal demand.

Energy and Food Products

Energy products, which represent a significant share of Tunisia's imports, recorded a 16.9% decline in 2025. This decrease is primarily due to a reduction in imports of refined products, which dropped from 1,466.2 MD to 610.4 MD, a 58.3% decrease. This development could be linked to a decrease in energy consumption or an improvement in national energy efficiency.

Food Imports

Imports of food products decreased by 1.9% in 2025. Although modest, this decline could indicate an improvement in local agricultural production or a change in Tunisians' consumption habits.

These trends provide insight into Tunisia's economic dynamics and trade patterns, highlighting areas of growth and sectors that require attention to stimulate economic development.
