Closure of the Sustainable Tourism Promotion Project
Held Today in Tunis with the Slogan "Diversifying Tourist Offers for a More Sustainable, Inclusive, and Job-Creating Tourism"
The closure of the Sustainable Tourism Promotion Project was held today, January 29, in Tunis, with the main slogan "Diversifying Tourist Offers for a More Sustainable, Inclusive, and Job-Creating Tourism". The event was organized by the Ministry of Tourism.
Sofiène Tekaïa, Minister of Tourism, Giuseppe Perrone, Ambassador of the European Union Delegation in Tunisia, and Elisabeth Wolbers, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, took turns to highlight the achievements of this cooperation, which began in 2020, in the presence of representatives from the Tunisian National Tourist Office (ONTT), federations, Regional Tourism Commissioners (CRT), associations, and other sectoral organizations.
Sustainable Tourism: A Necessity for Tunisia
Sustainable tourism is no longer just a trend, but a necessity for Tunisia to reduce the impact of traditional tourism on the environment, preserve the environment, and promote culture and heritage. Sustainable tourism also has the advantage of creating jobs and boosting the local economy.
Minister of Tourism's Address
In his speech, the Minister of Tourism declared that the collaboration with GIZ to make Tunisia a sought-after destination has been a success, highlighting the country's cultural potential by promoting its material and intangible heritage and integrating sustainable tourism.
Project Achievements
The Minister cited some figures generated by the project, including:
- 3,470 active individuals assisted, 66% of whom are women
- 851 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), 44% of which are located in rural areas
- 54 local associations trained and upgraded through 248 training sessions
- 310 tour operators who benefited from the project to expand their prospecting and market their products more widely
Recommendations for the Tourism Sector
The Minister also provided some recommendations to further improve the tourism sector, including:
- Dynamizing the cultural sector
- Ensuring a clean and protected environment
- Promoting and valorizing our heritage
- Improving air transport
- Offering a diversified range of tourist activities, including hiking and historical site visits
