Sustainable Tourism Promotion Project Closes with a Bang in Tunis
On Wednesday, January 29, the Ministry of Tourism and Handicrafts organized the closing ceremony of the Sustainable Tourism Promotion Project in Tunis. Katrin Gerhard, Component Head of the project at GIZ, highlighted the various flagship initiatives that make up this project.
FEELMEDINA: Revitalizing the Medina at Night and on Weekends
One of the first initiatives Gerhard mentioned was FEELMEDINA, aimed at revitalizing the Medina during evenings and weekends, typically quiet periods. To achieve this, a range of activities were proposed by the 20 mobilized actors, including the GIE M'dinti.
Médina des Lumières: A Spectacular Event
Next, Gerhard highlighted Médina des Lumières, which has had three editions in 2022, 2023, and 2024. This event featured video mapping, monument illumination, street food, cultural activities, artistic performances, exhibitions, and tourist routes. The 2023 mapping and Stanbeli spectacle attracted over 15,000 spectators.
Slow Tourism and Ecological Transportation
Another idea is to develop slow tourism with tourist signage, allowing visitors to discover the entire archaeological site of Carthage while enjoying ecological transportation.
Mekletna: Promoting Regional Heritage and Culinary Tourism
The Mekletna project, "A Taste of Home," promotes regional heritage, initiates culinary tourism, and highlights the flagship menus of Mahdia, Zaghouan, Tozeur, Tabarka, and Ain Drahem regions. The project has benefited 80 individuals, 60% of whom are women representing 30 structures (guest tables, restaurants, etc.).
Culinary Walks: Valuing Culinary, Agricultural, and Artisanal Heritage
In the same spirit, the Culinary Walks initiative aims to valorize culinary, agricultural, and artisanal heritage in Tozeur, Mahdia, Zaghouan, and the Northwest regions. As a result, the capacities of 30 rural women beneficiaries have been reinforced.
AOTD: Developing Outdoor Tourism
Finally, Gerhard mentioned the AOTD program, which focuses on developing outdoor tourism in the Kef, Northwest, Zaghouan, Mahdia, and Tozeur regions.
