Tunisian Businesses May Benefit from New Opportunities in the Chinese Market

Tunisian companies could take advantage of new opportunities in the Chinese market, thanks to the suspension of customs duties on several products imported from African countries, including Tunisia, for a period of two years. This measure aims to facilitate access for Tunisian exporters to one of the world's largest markets and strengthen their competitiveness.

A Delegation from the Chinese Council for the Promotion of International Trade Visits Tunisia

In this context, a delegation from the Chinese Council for the Promotion of International Trade of the Hunan province visited the Tunisian Center for Export Promotion (CEPEX) on June 9, 2026. The meeting with the President and CEO of CEPEX, Mourad Ben Hassine, focused on ways to develop trade exchanges and economic partnerships between Tunisian and Hunan-based companies.

A Significant Opportunity for Tunisian Exporters

With over 1.4 billion consumers, China represents one of the most important consumer markets in the world. The Hunan province, with a population of over 65 million, is a significant industrial and economic hub in the country. The discussions centered on mechanisms to improve the presence of Tunisian products in China, diversify export markets, and reduce dependence on traditional European markets. Both parties also discussed organizing business missions, professional meetings, and sharing information related to foreign trade and investment.

A Memorandum of Understanding Signed

The meeting concluded with the signing of a memorandum of understanding between CEPEX and the Chinese Council for the Promotion of International Trade of the Hunan province. This agreement aims to establish a permanent framework for cooperation in the areas of trade promotion, expertise exchange, and development of relations between companies from both countries.

A Strategic Initiative for Tunisia

For Tunisia, this initiative is part of a broader strategy to diversify export markets and integrate into international value chains. It also comes within the context of economic rapprochement between Tunis and Beijing, marked by a common desire to strengthen trade exchanges and investments.
