The Tunisian Academy of Sciences, Letters, and Arts "Beït Al-Hikma" is now headed by Professor Raja Yassine Bahri.

A Historic Appointment
With this designation, Raja Yassine Bahri becomes the first woman to lead the Academy since its creation in 1983. As an academic and historian, she is recognized for her research on the history of Moriscos and, more broadly, on historical dynamics in the Mediterranean.
Taking the Reins
She succeeds Professor Mahmoud Ben Romdhane, whose term ended in mid-June 2026. Located in Carthage-Hannibal, Beït Al-Hikma brings together personalities from the sciences, letters, and arts. The institution's mission is to promote research, encourage academic reflection, and contribute to intellectual debates through its work, publications, and scientific meetings.
Recent Activities
This appointment comes at the end of the 2025-2026 academic year, which closed on June 11. On this occasion, the Academy organized several conferences on Tunisian identity and the screening of a documentary on the restoration work of the Carthage palace, which houses its headquarters.
