Heavy Rainfall Hits Tunisia, Disrupting Traffic and Daily Life
Overview of the Situation
Heavy rainfall has affected a large part of Tunisia, making headlines in all media outlets, radios, and newspapers. Several photos showing flooded roads and blocked vehicles have gone viral, testifying to the extent of the disruptions.
Impact on Roads and Traffic
These weather conditions have impacted several road axes in the country. The Ministry of Equipment and Housing, as well as Tunisia Autoroutes, have published updates on the state of the roads and the measures taken to ensure user safety.
Regional Updates
- Tunis Governorate: Water evacuation is ongoing on the secondary road of national road n°9, near the American school, allowing for safer traffic circulation.
- Ben Arous: Traffic has resumed on national roads n°1 and the old n°3, as well as on local road 559, while local roads 557 and 573 remain interrupted.
- Nabeul Governorate: The situation is mixed. Some sections have reopened after the water level dropped, notably on national road n°1 in Boughrâb and on regional road 27 in front of the barracks. However, some areas remain at risk. The water level remains high on regional road 26 in Soliman, and traffic is proceeding with caution on the section between PK 3 and PK 7+500. In the Oued El-Kebir area, near Dar Chaaban, traffic is being diverted to a single bridge in both directions.
- Sousse: A partial preventive closure of regional road 814, between Hergla and Sousse, has been decided due to waves flooding part of the road.
