PhosCo Delivers Strong Results at Gasaat Project in Kasserine

Australian mining company PhosCo continues to deliver positive news regarding its Gasaat project in Kasserine, Tunisia. The first five drill holes in the KH zone have all intersected significant phosphate mineralization, with standout results including an interval of 19.4 meters at 20.66% P₂O₅, which includes a high-grade section of 9 meters reaching up to 24.21%.

These figures add to an existing resource inventory that, as of last May, stood at 166.6 million tonnes with an average grade of 20.6% P₂O₅ across the entire project. Another key advantage for the KH zone is its proximity to the proposed processing plant site, located just 3.5 kilometers away, combined with tabular mineralization deemed easy to mine. According to the company, these factors strengthen the economic outlook for Gasaat as a future large-scale phosphate project.

Goal: An Integrated Value Chain Up to Fertilizer Production

PhosCo is not aiming for simple extraction alone. The company intends to build an integrated value chain at Gasaat, extending all the way to fertilizer production. This strategy leverages the strategic location in Tunisia, which is close to major European customers and the Mediterranean basin.

On the processing front, tests on KM ore yielded concentrates with 31.4% P₂O₅, with recovery rates ranging from 75.1% to 83.7%. A simplified flotation process has been identified, which is expected to reduce future costs.

However, the project remains in the exploration phase. These volumes do not yet constitute proven reserves, and a preliminary economic study is expected in the third quarter of 2026.

For investors tracking the revival of Tunisia’s phosphate industry, each new positive drill hole brings Gasaat closer to becoming a benchmark mining project in the region. Tunisian players in mining subcontracting and construction should consider positioning themselves now, before the Q3 2026 economic study clarifies the timeline for production start-up.
