Tunisia Takes a New Step in its Energy Transition with the Launch of the Grand Prix of Energy Performance (GPEP)
The Grand Prix of Energy Performance (GPEP) is the first national initiative dedicated to evaluating, certifying, and promoting the energy performance of companies in Tunisia. This first national edition brings together public authorities, companies, and energy transition stakeholders around a common ambition: to make energy management a lever for competitiveness, innovation, and economic sovereignty.
A Strategic Challenge for Tunisian Companies
In a context marked by rising energy costs, persistent energy dependence, and increasing environmental requirements on international markets, particularly with the gradual entry into force of the European Union's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), energy performance has become a strategic challenge for Tunisian companies. The GPEP responds to this new reality by proposing, for the first time in Tunisia, an independent national reference framework that allows organizations to identify, measure, and promote energy efficiency at the heart of their development strategy.
A National First in the Service of Competitiveness
Beyond a distinction of honor, the GPEP aims to durably establish a culture of energy performance within the Tunisian economic fabric. Based on a rigorous and transparent methodology, the Prize evaluates applications according to a scoring grid of 100 points based on technical, organizational, economic, and environmental criteria. Only organizations that achieve a minimum score of 70 points can claim a distinction. This first edition covers seven categories representing strategic sectors of the energy transition in Tunisia:
- Solar energy
- Electric mobility
- High-performance electrical appliances
- Industry
- Building
- Banks and microfinance institutions
- Tourism
Through these categories, the GPEP aims to highlight companies that innovate, invest, and sustainably reduce their energy consumption while strengthening their competitiveness.
"Making Energy Performance an Economic Reflex"
On the occasion of the official launch, Nebil Jridet, founder of the GPEP, stated: "Energy performance is no longer just an environmental issue. It has become a determining factor in competitiveness, resilience, and value creation. With the GPEP, we want to recognize companies that are taking the lead and encourage the entire Tunisian economic fabric to make energy efficiency a real lever for development."
Khaled Triki, a member of the UTICA Executive Board, highlighted the employers' organization's commitment to decarbonizing the Tunisian economy: "Energy is at the heart of development issues, as it directly affects the improvement of citizens' living conditions and the competitiveness of our companies. UTICA is fully mobilized to support national decarbonation efforts and encourage initiatives that promote more sustainable and resilient growth."
The CEO of AGIL welcomed an initiative that could accelerate the transformation of the national economic fabric: "Initiatives such as the Grand Prix of Energy Performance are a powerful lever for emulation. They encourage companies to do more and better to achieve sustainable energy performance. Tunisia is currently facing a significant energy deficit that must be addressed. In a world marked by profound changes and significant challenges, these transformations also represent an opportunity to rethink our energy model and turn our constraints into drivers of progress and value creation."
Skander Haddar, co-founder of the GPEP and CEO of TPM Event, the event organizer, emphasized the collective dimension of this approach: "The GPEP is a unifying project. Its success relies on a common mobilization of companies, public institutions, experts, and technical and financial partners. Together, we want to build a credible national reference that promotes best practices and supports the energy transition of our economy."
