Government Approves Measures to Enhance Public Land Heritage in Tunisia

A restricted ministerial council, chaired by Head of Government Kamel Maddouri on Monday, January 20, 2025, approved a series of measures aimed at valorizing public land heritage in Tunisia.

These decisions respond to the directives of the President of the Republic to accelerate the revision of the legislative framework governing public agricultural and non-agricultural land, while ensuring enhanced governance and optimal exploitation of these resources.

During the meeting, the Head of Government emphasized the importance of this heritage as a lever to increase non-fiscal resources, create wealth, and support sustainable development based on economic sovereignty.

He stressed the need to accelerate reforms to eliminate administrative and legal obstacles, while establishing practices based on transparency and effective governance.

The council validated several initiatives, including:

  • The creation of a national digital portal to register and track public land assets
  • The acceleration of the regularization of recovered agricultural lands and their exploitation
  • The establishment of an updated legal framework to facilitate investments

Among the adopted measures is also the revision of land allocation procedures to reduce delays and offer incentives to young entrepreneurs and local companies.

The government also plans to allocate a portion of public lands to renewable energy projects and social housing, while strengthening controls to prevent abuses and illegal exploitation. These decisions aim to integrate 280,000 hectares of public lands into the economic circuit, with particular attention paid to protecting the land heritage for future generations.

The announced reforms constitute a major step in the national strategy to modernize public asset management, encourage investment, and reinforce the role of the State as a driver of economic and social development.
