Tunisian Foreign Minister Meets with COMESA Counterparts to Strengthen Ties

The Tunisian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Tunisians Abroad, Mohamed Ali Nafti, held a series of bilateral meetings with several COMESA member state counterparts, as well as with the organization's Secretary General, on the sidelines of the 20th meeting of Foreign Affairs Ministers and the 24th Summit of Heads of State and Government.

Strengthening Tunisian-Kenyan Partnership

During his meeting with the Kenyan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nafti welcomed the positive dynamics of relations between Tunisia and Kenya, highlighting promising opportunities in the fields of industry, ICT, health, culture, and higher education. The two officials agreed to sign several cooperation agreements during the Tunisian minister's upcoming visit to Nairobi.

Increased Cooperation with Burundi

The Tunisian Foreign Minister also met with his Burundian counterpart, reaffirming the depth of historical relations between the two countries and Tunisia's willingness to participate in development and infrastructure projects in Burundi. The Burundian minister praised Tunisia's role in his country's stability and development, calling for increased cooperation within the framework of Burundi's Vision 2040.

Renewed Partnership with Mauritius

Nafti's discussions with the Mauritian Minister of Foreign Affairs focused on key sectors such as health, electricity, and renewable energy. Nafti expressed Tunisia's availability to build a fruitful partnership, while the Mauritian side invited Tunisian entrepreneurs to explore investment opportunities in Mauritius.

Strategic Relations with Libya

Another meeting brought Nafti together with a representative of the Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The two parties emphasized the depth of Tunisian-Libyan ties and discussed the project to modernize the Ras Jedir border post, considered essential for strengthening trade and regional integration within COMESA.

Tunisian Commitment to COMESA

Finally, during his meeting with the COMESA Secretary General, Nafti reaffirmed Tunisia's willingness to actively contribute to African integration. The Secretary General praised Tunisia's regular participation and constant engagement, highlighting the strategic importance of the Ras Jedir project for regional economic connectivity.

Tunisia is multiplying diplomatic initiatives to strengthen its presence in Africa through COMESA, focusing on economic cooperation, infrastructure, and bilateral exchanges with several countries on the continent.
