Digital Payments in Africa: A Rapid Transformation

The digital payments sector in Africa is undergoing a rapid transformation, driven by digitalization and the rise of fintechs. At the 16th edition of the Africa Banking Forum in Tunis, Youssef Berrada, Marketing Director & New Business Models at S2M, highlighted the Moroccan company's commitment to strengthening its presence in Tunisia and across the continent.

"Imagine a world where every payment is instant and accessible. This is not a dream, we are building it," declared Youssef Berrada, emphasizing the importance of innovation for financial inclusion in Africa. With 40 years of experience and a presence in 35 countries, S2M positions itself as a key player in the digitalization of banking and commercial transactions.

In Tunisia, the company already plays a major role, with 7 million managed cards, 3,200 terminals, and a network of 40,000 merchants. The stated objective is clear: to accelerate the adoption of digital payments through artificial intelligence and an improved user experience.

Strengthened Commitment to Tunisia

Berrada announced the opening of S2M's second office in Tunisia, with new investments in innovative digital solutions. According to him, electronic payments are not just a convenience, but a real driver of growth for the Tunisian and African economies.

However, during the same event, Youssef Berrada pointed out challenges to be overcome: the interoperability of payment systems, inadequate regulation, and the need for a more conducive framework for technological investments.

Beyond Tunisia, S2M is betting on a collaborative approach at the pan-African level. The company is working on cross-border payment solutions that will facilitate commercial exchanges and strengthen economic integration on the continent.

"The future of payments in Africa relies on innovation and cooperation. We must build an ecosystem where every transaction is fluid, secure, and accessible to all," concluded Youssef Berrada.
