Central Bank of Tunisia Publishes Bulletin N°13
The Central Bank of Tunisia has published its Bulletin N°13 today, September 15. The landscape of bank cards remains robust, with 5,782 million bank cards in circulation. The network of physical infrastructure is also well-developed, with 3,289 ATMs and 40,600 electronic payment terminals (EPTs). Additionally, 1,127 active merchant sites facilitate online transactions.
Overall Payment Activity
The overall payment activity saw an increase of +3.6% in the number of transactions in the first half of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024, although the total amount slightly decreased by -0.5%.
E-Payment and Mobile Payment
Dematerialized payment solutions are experiencing good growth:
- E-payment recorded 13.8 million transactions for a total amount of 77.7 million dinars (MDT) in the first half of 2025. These figures represent a significant increase of +23% in number and +22% in amount compared to the first half of 2024.
- Mobile payment is not far behind, with 12.4 million transactions totaling 71.5 MDT in the first half of 2025. Its growth is even more spectacular, reaching +38% in number and +35% in amount over the same period.
- Proximity payments also contributed to this dynamic, increasing by +17.6% in number and +16.0% in amount.
Electronic Wallets (PSP Wallets)
Electronic wallets are showing a particularly strong dynamic, with a total amount of 2,868.2 million dinars in the first half of 2025, representing an increase of 41.7% compared to the previous year. These platforms processed 16 million transactions for a total amount of 4.2 million dinars, with payments accounting for 59.4% of the amount and transfers accounting for 33.0%.
