Mobile Payment Boom in Tunisia: 290,000 Active E-Wallets in 2024
Since the launch of mobile payment, Tunisia has witnessed a significant growth in the use of electronic wallets, reaching 290,000 active wallets in 2024.
According to the "Payments in Figures in Tunisia" bulletin published on Tuesday, August 27, by the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT), the number of transactions has seen a sharp increase. Although cash withdrawals remain important, they have recorded moderate growth.
The monetics sector has also experienced expansion, with a significant increase in e-payment and proximity transactions.
The number of transactions has risen from 71.7 million to 77 million. Proximity payments, in particular, have shown a marked progression, with a 9.3% increase in value.
