OpenAI Announces European Server Deployment for Enhanced Data Privacy and Compliance
OpenAI has announced the deployment of servers in Europe to store user data for ChatGPT Enterprise, ChatGPT Edu, and its API. This initiative aims to strengthen data confidentiality and facilitate compliance with local regulations, such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
However, only professional clients will be able to benefit from this data residency, which will not be activated by default.
The company highlights its security guarantees, including advanced encryption, non-use of client data for training purposes, and compliance with CSA STAR and SOC 2 Type 2 standards. This move is part of a broader effort to reinforce European digital sovereignty, as the EU seeks to reduce its dependence on American technologies and counter the growing influence of Chinese players.
