Tunisia Launches International Tender for Wheat Purchase

The Tunisian Grain Office has launched a new international tender for the purchase of 100,000 tons of soft wheat and 100,000 tons of hard wheat, according to European sources. This initiative aims to strengthen the country's strategic stocks in response to growing cereal needs.

The tender concerns four lots of 25,000 tons each, with deliveries scheduled between December 15, 2024, and January 25, 2025, depending on the origin of the cargo. Notably, the origin of the cereals remains open, allowing for greater flexibility for suppliers.

In previous tenders, the Office had already acquired 75,000 tons of hard wheat on November 1 and 125,000 tons of soft wheat on October 22, demonstrating an intensified procurement strategy.

However, this time, no payment guarantee from foreign organizations has been mentioned, unlike previous operations where institutions like the World Bank had supported the purchases. This development could reflect a desire to manage these transactions in a more autonomous manner.
