Tunisia's Foreign Exchange Reserves Decline

According to the latest data published by the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT) on February 19, 2025, the country's net foreign exchange reserves have decreased, standing at 22,892.6 million Tunisian dinars (Mtnd), compared to 22,961.5 Mtnd the previous day. This decline of 152.9 Mtnd is part of a recent downward trend, with a contraction of 68.9 Mtnd compared to the same period in 2024.

In terms of import coverage, foreign exchange reserves now represent 100 days of imports, a decrease of one day compared to February 18 and a more significant reduction of five days compared to the previous year (105 days on February 19, 2024). This contraction can be attributed to various factors, including the settlement of external debt service, which has reached 4,674.2 Mtnd since the beginning of the year, an increase of over 3,117 Mtnd compared to 2024.

On the other hand, Tunisia is benefiting from an increase in tourism revenue and foreign exchange earnings from work. As of February 10, 2025, cumulative tourism revenue had reached 647.7 Mtnd, an increase of 100.9 Mtnd compared to the previous year. Meanwhile, foreign exchange earnings from work have accumulated to 878.9 Mtnd, recording a notable increase of 197.5 Mtnd over the past year.
