Tunisian Startup nextProtein Partners with Mexico City's Central de Abastos to Recycle Organic Waste

The Tunisian startup nextProtein has concluded a strategic agreement with Central de Abastos, the main wholesale market for food products in Mexico City. The company has committed to recycling 200 tons of organic waste per year from Central de Abastos, transforming these waste materials into protein-rich inputs for animal feed.

Investment and Job Creation

nextProtein plans to invest 655 million pesos (approximately 122.6 million USD) in its first year of operation in Mexico, generating 400 direct jobs. This investment is supported by an agreement signed with the Secretariat of Economic Development of Mexico City (Sedeco) and Central de Abastos (Ceda).

Expansion into Latin America

Founded in 2015, nextProtein has already developed two factories in Tunisia. Following its initial success, the company has chosen Mexico as its new regional hub for expansion. The project involves setting up five operational factories in various regions of the country, consolidating nextProtein's presence in Latin America.
