2026 Cereal Harvest Begins with Promising Volumes
The 2026 cereal harvest has started to deliver its first volumes on a national scale. As of June 9, the collected quantities have reached approximately 1.374 million quintals, according to data from the Office of Cereals, as reported by the TAP agency.
Production and Consumption
The production is mainly intended for consumption, with around 1.346 million quintals, according to the same source. Selected seeds account for approximately 28,000 quintals.
Harvest Progress
The harvest was launched on May 28, 2026, in the Kairouan governorate. Since then, operations have been gradually expanding to other cereal-producing regions of the country. The evolution of the agricultural calendar is expected to lead to an acceleration of volumes in the coming days.
Collection and Distribution
Meanwhile, collection and distribution channels are being mobilized. The Office of Cereals has activated a transport mechanism to central silos and processing units. This mechanism aims to facilitate the flow of harvests and ensure the continuity of supply to the local market.
Security Measures
The relevant authorities are also emphasizing the need to strengthen security measures. Stakeholders in the sector are called upon to ensure good conditions for collection, transportation, and storage in order to preserve the quality of the harvests.
