Ministry of Commerce and Export Development Expects Continued Inflation Rate Decline in February and March 2025

The Ministry of Commerce and Export Development anticipates a continued decline in the inflation rate in February and March 2025, as well as a decrease in prices of certain consumer goods ahead of the Ramadan month.

Inflation Rate Down to 6% in January 2025

In January 2025, the inflation rate dropped to around 6%, compared to 6.2% in December 2024 and 7.8% in January 2024. According to the Ministry, this downward trend, observed since March 2023, is the result of efforts to rationalize prices.

Measures to Support Price Decrease

The expected decline in inflation is based on several measures, including:

  • Price Freeze and Control: Freezing price increases for regulated products and controlling price hikes for free products.
  • Extended Winter Sales: Prolonging winter sales until the end of February 2025, with a possible extension until mid-March, and offering exceptional discounts on Eid outfits in collaboration with professionals.
  • Fixed Prices for Imported Meat: Setting price ceilings for imported meat at 35.5 TND, 32 TND, and 25.5 TND/kg for beef, and 38.2 TND/kg for lamb.
  • Competitive Prices for Local Meat: Offering competitive prices for local meat at Ellouhoum sales points (34.5 TND/kg for beef and 42 TND/kg for lamb), as well as voluntary promotions by professionals.
  • Direct Sales from Producers to Consumers: Developing direct sales points from producers to consumers in governorates and launching special offers in large retail stores for Ramadan, which should contribute to reinforcing the downward trend in prices and supporting the decline in the inflation rate.

The Ministry is confident that these measures will help maintain the downward trend in prices and support the decline in the inflation rate.
