Solar Power Plants Inaugurated in Medenine

Four photovoltaic solar power plants, each with a capacity of 2 MW, have been inaugurated in Medenine as part of the licensing system for renewable energy projects, according to a statement from the Ministry of Industry. The inauguration ceremony took place on April 4, presided over by Wael Chouchane, Secretary of State for Energy Transition, in the presence of local authorities and representatives of the electricity sector.
Key Features of the Solar Power Plants
- Total cost: 16 million dinars
- Annual savings: 1.5 million dinars in electricity production costs
- Annual reduction in natural gas imports: 4.5 million dinars
- Contribution to the national strategy: aiming to produce 35% of electricity from renewable energy sources by 2030 and 50% by 2035
Alignment with National Energy Strategy
The solar power plants are part of the national strategy to create a sustainable and resilient energy model, in line with ESG standards. This initiative supports the country's efforts to reduce its reliance on fossil fuels and promote the use of renewable energy sources.
Ongoing Energy Project
Meanwhile, a high/medium voltage transformer station is under construction in Ben Guerdane, featuring:
- A 33/225 kV station with 80 MVA transformers
- A 225 kV overhead line connecting the Medenine and Abu Kammash power plants to Libya

- Progress: 82% complete
- Objective: to secure the region's electricity supply, supporting local economic growth and attractiveness for businesses and investors.
