Ahmed Jaouadi Wins First Gold Medal in Long-Course Swimming at 2025 World Championships
Ahmed Jaouadi secured his first gold medal in long-course swimming on Wednesday, July 30, at the 2025 World Swimming Championships. The 20-year-old Tunisian swimmer, who posted the best time in the heats, dominated the 800m freestyle final, clocking an impressive 7 minutes 36 seconds 88.
After falling behind in the first 200 meters, Jaouadi demonstrated consistent progress, overtaking his opponents to take the lead, a position he maintained until the final touch. He outpaced German swimmers Sven Schwarz and Lukas Märtens, the latter being an Olympic champion in the 400m freestyle.
This victory is all the more remarkable given that it comes just a year after his impressive performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where he finished fourth in the same event.
With this world title, Ahmed Jaouadi brings Tunisia its first swimming championship since Ahmed Hafnaoui's victories in the 800m and 1,500m freestyle events in 2023.
