Tunisian Government Aims to Improve Environmental Governance and Waste Management
According to the TAP agency, the Head of Government, Kamel Madouri, chaired a ministerial council meeting on Monday at the Kasbah Palace, dedicated to examining ways to improve the governance of the cleanliness and environmental protection system. On this occasion, he advocated for a overhaul of the legal and institutional framework in this area to better respond to current environmental challenges.
Such a reform, he emphasized, will enable the acceleration of numerous projects related to this sector. Madouri also recalled the particular interest shown by the President of the Republic, Kais Saïed, in environmental issues and his insistence on the constitutional right of citizens to a healthy and balanced environment.
He highlighted the role of the State and its institutions in mobilizing the necessary resources to guarantee this right and eliminate the causes of pollution. The Head of Government stressed the need to strengthen the governance of the cleanliness and environmental protection system by optimizing the complementarity between different public organizations.
He called for the adoption of an integrated approach combining waste collection, valorization, and improvement of living conditions in a healthy and sustainable environment. Madouri exhorted stakeholders to work towards building sustainable, attractive, innovative, and resilient city models, capable of managing their natural and human resources in a responsible and efficient manner.
Finally, he reaffirmed the importance of establishing a global and modern system for waste elimination and recycling, based on the latest management and treatment technologies. This system must ensure safe and responsible environmental and social management, while transforming waste into exploitable resources to support the economy and protect the environment.
