Strategic Agreement Signed to Combat Urban Food Waste in Tunisia
A strategic agreement was signed on May 2, 2025, in Tunis between the Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations (CDC) and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to combat urban food waste in Tunisia. This partnership aims to directly involve young people in reducing food losses, supporting the development of local and sustainable solutions.
Signed at the FAO headquarters, this agreement protocol commits both institutions alongside the municipalities of Tunis and La Goulette. It provides for actions such as training 50 municipal officials on sustainable development and green finance, supporting young entrepreneurs in structuring circular economy projects, and promoting three promising projects.
According to Mohamed Amrani, FAO Representative for North Africa, 76% of Tunisian households recognize the extent of food waste. For him, reducing it is crucial not only to alleviate the country's dependence on imports but also to generate employment opportunities, particularly for young people, by leveraging technologies and artificial intelligence.
This partnership places young people at the heart of an important environmental, economic, and social challenge, betting on their ability to transform consumption and waste management practices in urban environments.
