Tunisia Benefits from EU Support for Sustainable Economic Transformation
Tunisia is receiving support from the European Union (EU) through the "Support for Sustainable Development in the Agriculture and Artisanal Fisheries Sector in Tunisia" (Adapt) program, as part of its quest for sustainable economic transformation.
Launched in 2020 with an initial funding of €44.4 million, the program has seen its overall envelope increase to approximately €70 million, extended until 2028.
Implemented by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, Adapt aims to encourage private investments in the agriculture and artisanal fisheries sectors, two essential pillars of the Tunisian economy that are highly vulnerable to the effects of climate change.
The program seeks to strengthen the resilience of these sectors, ensuring long-term food security and supporting local communities.
A €25 million support fund is also planned to finance innovative projects in these areas, with the goal of transforming these sectors into drivers of sustainability while creating green jobs.
By promoting environmentally friendly agricultural practices and sustainable fishing techniques, Adapt aims to contribute to a green revolution in Tunisia.
