Tunisian Parliament Rejects Proposal to Combat Brain Drain
During a meeting held on Sunday, December 1st, 2024, the Assembly of the People's Representatives (ARP) rejected a proposal aimed at combating the brain drain of Tunisian talent.
Integrated into the 2025 Finance Bill, this initiative sparked a heated controversy. Withdrawn by MP Fakhreddine Fadhloun due to insufficient support, the proposal required medical, engineering, and other technical specialty graduates working abroad to reimburse 50% of their education costs over five years.
Deemed unconstitutional and restrictive of freedom, the proposal was strongly criticized by the medical and engineering orders, who saw it as a punitive measure lacking a strategic vision to curb the migration of skilled professionals.
