Tunis Institute of Higher Education Hosts Information Day on Self-Employed Status

The Tunis Institute of Higher Education (IHET) today hosted an information day dedicated to the self-employed status, a device initiated by the Ministry of Employment and officially launched in November 2024. This meeting aimed to better familiarize participants with the new national platform dedicated to self-employed individuals, as well as the mechanisms put in place to facilitate access to this status and support individual initiatives.

This legal and administrative framework, now operational, aims to stimulate entrepreneurship, encourage local innovation, and reduce obstacles related to administrative procedures. It is open to any Tunisian national exercising an individual activity in sectors such as industry, craftsmanship, commerce, or services (excluding non-commercial services, journalistic activities, and certain digital or creative activities). The annual turnover ceiling is set at 75,000 TND.

During the meeting, Mohamed El Kefi Rahmani, project manager for self-employment at the Ministry of Employment, presented the key benefits associated with this status. On the social front, the National Employment Fund covers quarterly social security contributions during the first year. In terms of taxation, self-employed individuals benefit from a total exemption in the first year, followed by a preferential regime set at 200 TND per year in communal areas and 100 TND elsewhere.

The device is also supported by a dedicated financing line of 10 million TND, providing access to credits of up to 15,000 TND at advantageous conditions. Beneficiaries can also access programs supporting microproject promoters, while having the option to declare their place of residence as their business headquarters.

From the second year, self-employed individuals are subject to simplified accounting obligations, including quarterly turnover declarations and payment of a single contribution (25 or 50 TND) covering both tax and social charges.
