Tunisian Olive Oil Exports See 39.4% Volume Increase, 29.3% Value Decrease

Tunisian olive oil exports have experienced a significant 39.4% volume increase, reaching 207,300 tonnes by the end of May 2025, according to data published by the National Observatory of Agriculture (Onagri). However, this growth has been accompanied by a notable 29.3% decrease in value, with revenues amounting to 2,801.2 million dinars, compared to higher levels the previous year.

This decline in global value is primarily explained by a sharp drop in the average export price, which stood at 13.51 TND/kg, compared to 26.65 TND/kg during the same period in 2024, representing a nearly 50% decrease.

The United States tops the list of destinations, absorbing 34.3% of exported volumes in May 2025, followed by Spain (21.8%) and Italy (21.2%), confirming the central role of the North American and European markets in Tunisian olive oil exports.

Furthermore, organic olive oil represents a significant share of the total, with 40,700 tonnes exported, valued at 553.4 million dinars. The average price remains at 13.61 TND/kg, slightly higher than the overall average, but still well below last year's levels. This category accounts for approximately 19.6% of total volumes and 19.8% of total export value.

Conditioned exports, on the other hand, represent only 6.3% of total organic olive oil exports, highlighting an underexploited potential for value-added through conditioning.

In terms of markets, Italy dominates imports of Tunisian organic olive oil, with 53% of volumes, followed by Spain (19%) and the United States (18%).
