The expansion projects of Tunis-Carthage Airport are gradually taking form. Initially announced in 2019, the works were scheduled to start in February 2020, with an estimated duration of 18 months and a budget of between 280 and 300 million dinars. Today, there are new developments.

The Minister of Transport, Rachid Amri, provided an update on the projects concerning Tunis-Carthage Airport on the occasion of the Aviation Days. According to the ministry, "The main objective remains to increase the airport's capacity to between 15 and 18 million passengers per year and to modernize the infrastructure to better welcome travelers." Additionally, "efforts are also underway to improve domestic airports, in order to better welcome travelers and support the local economy," he stated.

Regarding the project to transfer the airport to a new site, the minister recalled that "this option remains relevant, and the state continues to plan for the medium and long term."

In fact, as part of this project, new transportation initiatives were proposed in 2024 to improve mobility in the region. A high-speed train line will connect Tunis-Carthage and Enfidha-Hammamet airports, while a metro will facilitate travel between Lac and La Marsa (Bhar Lazreg). The authorities aim to simplify daily commutes and offer direct and rapid access to airports from the city center.

This modernization of infrastructure is part of a context of strong growth in tourism in Tunisia.
