State Revenue from Dividends Reaches 1,239 Billion Dinars by End of June 2024

The state's revenue from dividends has reached 1,239 billion dinars by the end of June 2024, falling short of the 1,260 billion dinar target set for the entire 2024 fiscal year.

The significant contribution of the Central Bank is evident, with a distribution of 1,056,762 billion dinars in 2023, a windfall for the state's coffers.

The final target is likely to be exceeded, as several listed companies in which the state holds shares will distribute dividends in July, such as the BNA. Other companies are expected to contribute to this revenue stream by the end of the year, promising a record intake.

This will result in more balanced "consolidated" accounts for public enterprises, as there are significant gaps to fill elsewhere, particularly in the transportation sector.

However, it is essential to work on the sustainability of these revenues, which have historically been volatile. The number of profitable public enterprises needs to be increased to create a recurrent dividend stream.

Nevertheless, this is far from certain. The government appears to be focusing on the situation of a few entities, such as the CPG, the Chemical Group, or the SNCFT. Stopping the bleeding of losses would be a success in the first instance. Solid programs with fresh capital injections and measures to increase revenue are necessary for the credibility of any recovery plan.
