Global Food Prices Rise in July 2025

After several months of decline, global food prices have increased in July 2025. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, the global price index reached 130.1 points, a 1.6% increase compared to June, marking its highest level since February 2023.

This upward trend is mainly driven by the surge in vegetable oils (+7.1%), fueled by strong demand for palm oil, a decrease in sunflower oil exports from the Black Sea, and the growth of soybean-based biofuels in the Americas. Meat prices have also reached a record high (+1.2% to 127.3 points), supported by strong demand in China and the United States, as well as the resumption of Brazilian poultry exports following an avian flu outbreak.

On the other hand, cereals (-0.8%), dairy products (-0.1%), and sugar (-0.2%) have experienced a slight decline. Despite the increase, the index remains below the peak reached in March 2022 (160.2 points), which was triggered by Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
