Electronic Payment Operations Surge in Tunisia
Q1 2024 Sees 42.6% Increase in Number of Transactions and 26.2% in Value
According to the payment bulletin published by the Central Bank of Tunisia, electronic payment operations (e-payments) have experienced a significant surge in the first quarter of 2024. The number of transactions reached 4.3 million, a 42.6% increase, while the total value of transactions amounted to 275.3 million Tunisian dinars, a 26.2% increase compared to December 31, 2023.
This growth can be attributed, in part, to the increasing number of active merchant sites, which has reached 1,177.
Monétique Indicators Show Improvement
In addition, monétique indicators reveal an improvement as of March 2024 compared to 2023, with:
- 3,235 DAB/GAB operations (a 0.9% increase compared to the previous year)
- 36,000 TPE (a 2.1% increase)
- 7.1 million bank cards (a 1.1% increase)
Mobile Payment Transactions Multiply by 9
The number of mobile payment transactions has multiplied by 9, increasing from 33,400 to 303,000 transactions between the first two quarters of 2023 and 2024, according to the same source.
Furthermore, the amounts processed in these transactions have also increased, rising from 5.4 to 43.8 million Tunisian dinars in the first quarter of 2024.
